these vagabond shoes (new york city)

Let's ignore the fact that it's been months since my last post. Life has taken me by storm and I've been busy crossing things off my 2013 "to-do" list, destination by destination.

This time, I'm in New York with my wonderful partner in crime. I've always wanted to take him to the city and show him the ropes (he's never been to Manhattan before!) so... that's what we did :)

We started off the day in Battery Park, where it was incredibly foggy and muggy out. Lady Liberty was in the distance, but seeing her was near impossible. A little disappointing, but the icing on the cake was the gentlemen who offered to take our picture with it... and ended up not holding down the shutter. You know what they say: if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself.

After that we were off to the Empire State Building. Protip: you'll know you're getting close when you start getting consistently pestered by people asking if you "want to go to the top." I felt like I was on America's Next Top Model. Anyway, we didn't go to the top. Dan's not one for heights and $25 each is a bit steep. We went across the street to Papaya Dog instead and chowed down on some NYC hotdogs.

We also, went to St. Mark's place for some $1 pizza at 2 Bros. and to browse comic books, but apparently I didn't photograph that. If you ever get the chance, GO.

We ended our day with a relaxing trip to Central Park, where we rested on some rocks, climbed some trees and explored the Belvedere Castle, which overlooks the lake and part of the city skyline. When the castle is open, you can actually go to the top and see it from a better angle, but even without going to the top it's an incredible (and free!) attraction.

I had to include this last shot (taken by Dan). He titled the one on the left "The Lone Cart." The windsheild on the left really encapsulates how rainy and gloomy of a day it was. Despite that, it was loads of fun and pretty jam-packed, I'd say.

Hope everyone's having a great summer! Hopefully you'll see more of these kinds of posts soon (and I have a belated one on Chicago that I should update... eventually... haha)

I included a map of all my favorite places in New York City above . Maybe there's something you haven't tried yet? If you have any suggestions feel free to leave them in a comment as well!
